Dr. Dana Blakolmer
Dr. Dana Blakolmer was born and raised in Oshawa. She graduated in 1995 from University of Waterloo with honours from the Doctor of Optometry program and Bachelor of Science. During her studies, she completed an external rotation at Kaiser Permenente in Washington, DC and Falls Church, Virginia.
Upon graduation Dr. Blakolmer was a clinical supervisor at the School of Optometry at University of Waterloo and at Huronial Regional Center in Barrie. Dr. Blakolmer started private practice at the Oshawa Clinic, and opened her own practice, Dr. Dana Blakolmer and Associates, in 2002.She has participated in volunteer eye care projects in Nicaragua and Nepal with the Canada organization TWECs and Manitoulin Island with the Vision Institute of Canada. Dr. Blakolmer has special interests in digital retinal imaging, diabetic eye diseases and nutrition and the eye.
Dr. Brian Yeung
Dr. Brian Yeung is a homegrown graduate of Ryerson University, and received his Doctor of Optometry degree from the prestigious Illinois College of Optometry in Chicago. He has completed numerous internships in multiple optometry and ophthalmology settings in the United States, including The Villages Veterans Affairs Outpatient Clinic in Florida, the Talley Eye Institute in Indiana, and private practice experience in Idaho. Dr. Yeung has valuable experiences in treating and managing ocular diseases, an area which he believes is becoming a larger focus for optometrists in the betterment of ocular health awareness. He also prides himself in bringing a positive culture to the profession and always strives to make the patient experience his top priority, leading to two 2019 Readers’ Choice Awards nominations for top optometrist in the Peterborough & Kawartha Lakes regions.
During his education at the Illinois College of Optometry, Dr. Yeung notably served as the President of the school’s Fellowship of Christian Optometrists group, a member of the Neuro-Optometric Rehabilitation Association and earned the distinguished title of Student Fellow of the American Academy of Optometry. Through the school, he was also able to participate in multiple medical optometry mission trips to Guatemala and Honduras.
As a sports fanatic, he loves playing softball and other sports in his spare time. He enjoys spending time with family & friends catching movies & TV shows, is a classically trained pianist and sketches as a hobby.
Dr. Gurkirat Taggar
Dr. Gurkirat Taggar was raised in Toronto and currently resides in Ajax. He graduated from the University of Waterloo with honours in the Doctor of Optometry program. Dr. Taggar completed a clinical rotation at the Eye Associates of Pinellas in Florida. He gained extensive knowledge about the most current treatment and management of various ocular diseases, including glaucoma, macular degeneration and diabetic retinopathy. His clinical interests include specialty contact lenses (i.e. Scleral lenses, RGPs, and Ortho-K) and dry eye disease management.
Dr. Taggar enjoys volunteering in the community with vision screenings for school children in the different communities of Toronto. He also had the opportunity to volunteer in the Pan American Special Olympics in athletes’ optometric care. Dr. Taggar is a proud member of the Ontario Association of Optometrists and the Canadian Association of Optometrists.
When he’s not in the clinic, he enjoys playing sports like basketball and volleyball, looking for new hiking trails, and spending time with his friends and family.

Dr. Dana Blakolmer & Associates evolved from a practice started by Dr. Dana Blakolmer in 2002 along with The Optical Boutique owned by her father, Karl Blakolmer.
Our doctors provide quality, comprehensive eye care and do so with a personal touch. Each doctor takes pride in advancing their skills and knowledge to always stay at the forefront of optometry and providing full-scope care to each patient.
